Years ago, my oldest kids took an art class with a wonderful teacher. She was not only encouraging to the children, but to the parents as well. In one class, she taught the kids the basics of using pastels and allowed us to join them. It was then that I felt like, maybe, I wasn’t bad at art.
Looking at a photo of a rooster and some chickens, I made my strokes and smudges and it was beautiful. Unfortunately, I don’t know where that picture ended up, nor did I think to add pastels to my art supplies.
Recently, in an effort to incorporate more art into my life, I finally bought a pack and began playing with them. I won’t say that I’m amazing at it, but I will say, my skills are improving as I learn to blend and shade more. Though I enjoy art in many mediums, pastels may be at the top of my list.
