Life Coaching

With almost 45 years of life experiences outside of the womb, I have learned a lot.

Childhood traumas? Gotten help for those. Awkward weird kid? That was me. Young wife and mother? I was 18 when I got pregnant. Nineteen when I got married. Mom of many? “Your Hands are full!”, “You must be busy!”, “OMG!” are not uncommon phrases ringing in my ears. Young mother trying to juggle my kids, adulting, struggling with mental health issues with little support, while my husband was deployed? That was why I joined roller derby. MLMs and odd jobs trying to help with the finances around life with young kids? I didn’t do well with that. Student parent while also homeschooling my own kids and farming? I just hope my example gives them something inspiring to look back on. Writing and self publishing books until I found the courage to reach out and submit something to a traditional publisher? Some day, maybe I’ll find the right one.  Having kids potty training while also becoming a grandma? It’s not as weird as people think. I could keep going, but I think you get the point.

People have called me crazy, called me superwoman, and asked me how I do it? Where do I find the time, the strength, the energy? And I don’t really know, because, through many of these experiences, I found myself carrying so much alone. I did have a few cheerleaders here and there, and a friend to lean on from time to time. At times, I did seek out support and that’s why I’m here today.

One thing I’ve learned in all these years is that, what I needed most, what many of us need most, was someone not to sit and tell me what to do, but someone to help me see that I either already knew or that I was capable of finding the answers and to trust my own voice. Sometimes, all I needed was someone to help me organize my thoughts and help me clarify them. Other times, the most helpful support was people cheering me on and believing in me, when I was struggling to believe in myself, especially with how often I have appeared to fail.

That is what coaching is about. Many people have so much going on that it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Many have no real community, support system, family to lean on. I know, I’ve lived it. Even when it looked like I did, I haven’t always had people I really felt safe to lean on. Sometimes, it’s been because others are too busy, or have heavy loads themselves. Sometimes it’s been because they haven’t been through what I’ve gone through or they didn’t share the same perspective and expressed theirs in unhelpful ways. Sometimes it’s been because I haven’t found someone who feels safe to share certain vulnerabilities with. There are so many reasons we face things alone and I understand struggling to join or even form a tribe or community.

After having so many friends and family members seek me out for such support, as well as encouragement from my therapist, I began studying what life coaching is, what benefits life coaching offers, and how to be a good life coach.

Over the past 2 years, I’ve helped people get through drafts of manuscripts, make career decisions, find their courage to be honest with themselves about their relationships and about what they really want, feel accountable and motivated about their life and health choices, and so much more.

That’s one reason I’m here. You don’t have to figure things out or face things alone. I’m here to cheer you on, support you, show you that your voice counts and that you are capable.
