Post-partum Support

Your pregnancy is over. Much of society is over it and expects you to quickly move on, if anyone even knew about it. Regardless of how or why your pregnancy has ended, whether you hold a baby in your arms or not, or even how little or long you carried them within you, the end of a pregnancy is not the end of your maternal journey or of the impact of pregnancy on the body and mind.

The post-partum phase never truly ends, though it’s considered to be up to 6 weeks by many people. The fact is, your body has been through an amazing and powerful experience. Whether it sits positively with you or not, it is still something that fully impacted your whole being and now, you are healing.

During the earliest stages, emotions often run high. Your body is changing, adjusting, recalibrating, all while trying to recover from the extensive work it has done. Your mind is too. Even your spirit. And it’s often times not light or dark, positive or negative. It’s ups and downs, back and forth, two things being true at once.

You may feel empowered and restless, but also exhausted and antisocial. You may experience joy over your baby and yet also depressed without knowing why. You may feel disconnected from your baby, but also long to be connected, depending on how your birth experience was. You may feel relief and grief all at the same time.

It can also be easy, once the bleeding slows down to think you are fine and can go back to living life like you did before. I know. I moved around heavy furniture 3 days post partum with my 2nd. Terrible idea. I ended up increasing my blood flow and having to rest for about as many days to recover from that choice. It can be hard to remember what your body actually goes through when a baby comes out of it, regardless of how, when, or why.

No matter what your situation a post partum body, a post partum woman, needs love and care. She needs support and comfort. You are healing. Massage, herbalism, aromatherapy, and life coaching can all be helpful tools as you go through the early stages, (and of course even beyond.)
